Be Beautiful - 5 Quintessential Beauty Tips for MEN (and women)

007 james bond daniel craig

What? beauty and men in the same sentence? Well, this is an advice column. So it’s about time we cover some beauty tips for guys. These tips are applicable for women too, but I don’t want to risk sounding like a guy who knows about female beauty (I just discovered the difference between mascara and eyeliner, actually…) I’m far from an expert on male beauty, but I’ve made (and still make) enough fashion/beauty mistakes to give you my 2 cents on the subjects.

1. Sleep

One day, my friend looked at my face and actually gasped. “What’s wrong?” I asked, clutching my perfectly chiseled face in fear. “You look like a ghost. Did you get any sleep?” I had eyebags the size of the Grand Canyon - it ran deep and wide. Let me tell you now, there is such a thing as beauty rest. Anyone can look twice as ugly or more if they don’t get the proper amount of rest. No matter how pretty or handsome you are, eyebags and red eyes aren’t going to help you land that date. Tiredness also contributes to poor posture, which won’t help you present your best self. So you really will look like what you feel. Get some sleep! It’s something I desperately need to work on it too. By the way, studies show that the best sleep pattern is to simply sleep when you feel tired (falling asleep within 5 minutes) and to wake up at a set time everyday. We can do it!

2. Exercise

There are many beauty benefits of working out. First is the obvious - you’ll stay in great shape. But increasing your heart rate everyday will also improve your mood - and people definitely look their best when they’re happy and smiling. Another interesting thing is that exercise doesn’t just make you breath harder, but also opens up your pores and makes your skin breathe. This will help you develop radiant, healthy-looking skin, granted that you actually shower after working out ;)

3. Victory over DeFeet

Never wear socks with sandals/flip-flops, ever. I wouldn’t wear clogs in public either (I own a pair that’s useful for showers). Lastly, make sure you wear socks with lengths appropriate to the pants you’re wearing. No-show socks are particularly good when you wear shorts and long socks are crucial when wearing long pants. The thing is that you don’t want to show the skin of your leg, which looks horrible when you’re putting up your leg or something. Some fashionable guys can pull off those wacky long socks while wearing shorts. I don’t know how they do it.

4. Shower

My female friend suggests moisturizing right after you shower. Doing so helps your skin retain moisture better, since warm water (I’m assuming you don’t take cold showers) opens up your pores. Moisturizing makes your skin look healthier, which will help you look younger and livelier.

5. Loosen up a little

If you don’t have “the look”, beware of tight pants. “The look” is that of a skinny guy (hence “skinny jeans”) who usually has a metrosexual sense of style. If you’re big and beefy, I wouldn’t try to squeeze into a par just to be fashionable. It’s not good for the family jewels and would make you look like you have chicken legs. Speaking of metrosexual, if you admit that you’re a pretty (and slim) boy, then the chic, flowery clothes . Such clothes don’t work well if you have a larger build. Bigger guys tend to look better in plain, yet elegant clothes (that are still fashionable). It’s all up in the air -

what do you guys think? I would love to hear YOUR beauty tips.

stay tuned for my next post on NERDS (it’ll be an interesting one, I promise).

your wingman,

gale

p.s. A big THANK YOU to Adi Moga, who is the VERY FIRST PERSON to donate to me! Thank you for your generosity. Guys, make sure to check out Mr. Moga’s very cool tech blog over at www.techpin.com ! If you guys haven’t already, check out my “Donate to Wingman” page tab at the top of this blog. It’s pretty funny and there’s an incentive to donating to your wingman! ;)

  2. Either all of these,or go to Europe and get an education on good manners.
But i think, from my own exoeriences and wisdom, this kind of things are fading really fast, these days.

  3. I couldn’t agree more with #3. It made me laugh because it brought up a vivid memory of the time I had to spend an entire day with my significant other at Disneyland when he was wearing socks with sandals. I guess it was a little funny, but also incredibly mortifying. I am excited about reading your post on nerds. I’ve always had an inexplicable attraction towards nerds.

  8. All of these are great and very excellent advice, especially #4, LOL! I’d also add ‘hands’ to #4, a nice manicure or just well groomed and clipped nails is a plus. And finally hair! We take it for granted that people will wash and comb their hair, HA!

  10. hmm…
wash your hair daily with shampoo & conditioner..pick suitable hair wax/gel, get a good hair dresser to trim your hair..
use facial cleanser, toner, face moisturizer, eye gel/ balm …and after shave cologne.
scrub your skin at least once a week to remove dead cells on skin…to do facial / mask once a week
to use deodorant or wear suitable perfume.
well-trim finger nail and good personal hygiene i.e proper hand washing , can’t stand loads of dirt on finger nail..
healthy dietary…drink more water, more fiber, fruits & vege, less oily, less fat , less sugar..
know how to dress up as per dress code for special occasion..if u wan to wear a suit, what kind of design for your jacket, full ? 3 buttons? for a shirt, french collar? knowing how to pair the tie with shirt and cuff link, how to pick a nice time piece, a good design comfy pant and shoe..

  11. Great tips, and congrats on your first donation! I hope many more follow.

Can I add my two cents? One of your commenter’s mentioned neat trimmed nails, that is SO IMPORTANT on feet and hands! It can be a huge turn-off to see that a guy has dirty nails.

And, another benefit of moisturizing after the shower….soft skin. I love it when a masculine guy has soft skin!
